Donations Accepted

I really debated about doing this, but my sister convinced me that it was okay. Most of you know that Hayden competed in--and completed--his first Olympic length triathlon in September. He is 13 and was the youngest competitor to compete as an individual--not part of a relay team. As far as we can tell, he is the youngest competitor that has ever competed in this event. It was quite an event. You can read more about it here. Anyway, the reason that he had such a poor finish was because of his technical difficulties with his bike. He had to stop several times to adjust things, put his chain back on, etc.
The bike is older than he is. Racing bikes are very expensive. He has been saving up and has about $250 saved from mowing lawns, babysitting, and a donation from a friend. Dix found a racing bike for sale at a pawn shop near his work. It is a Cannondale and seems to be exactly the bike that Hayden wants. It is listed at $800, although Dix is sure he can talk him down to below $500. Several of you mentioned that you wanted to donate to Hayden's bike fund, so I decided that I would offer this "donate" button to make it easy for you. For any of you living close to us, please call and have Hayden come babysit or do yard work for you. For any of you living far away that want to donate, hopefully this will not seem too offensive to you. We were so surprised and overwhelmed by the comments at the end of the triathlon blog entry. We are grateful to all of you, our friends and family, for the love and support. Know that any donations that are made will be used wisely (Hayden is much wiser than his parents!) for gear that will help him in his goal to compete in many future triathlons!

If you would rather donate the "old fashioned way" you can email me at 8olivers@gmail.com for our address.
