Dixon's Birthday

We had a fun day celebrating Dixon's 40th today. Church was good. I'm sick of 9 am church already though...only 7 more months of that nonsense. Dix picked Lucky Charms as his special birthday breakfast (we don't normally eat cold cereal, so that is usually the pick for a special treat, whereas pancakes and waffles are everyday fare!) Dix remembered that it was fast Sunday this morning though, and watched the little kids devour it before church. Amazingly enough, Cooper likes the cereal better than the marshmallows! (What kind of a mother would feed Lucky Charms to a baby? Please don't call CPS on me!)

Then it was home and naps for the babies (Cooper and Dixon). While they were napping, I baked the birthday cake, with some help from Turner and Regan. I was trying to do a ganache glaze on the cake, like they have on the fancy cakes at the bakery. It didn't quite look the way I wanted it to look, but it ended up being really yummy and not too sweet.

Also, while he was sleeping we hung up some streamers and balloons to make it feel festive. Dale stopped by and helped us celebrate.

We had bratwurst, salad and some fruit for dinner and then cake and lots of ice cream. Landon had a little too much ice cream and ended up tossing it, along with all of his dinner, all over the basement floor. At least it wasn't on the carpet. Man, I didn't know that Landon's little stomach could hold that much!

Grandma and Grandpa called from Germany and talked to me, Regan, Landon and Dix. Here is Regan (messy face and all) talking to Grandpa on the phone.

After dinner we put Turner and Cooper to bed and then we watched the new National Treasure movie. Landon and Regan kept complaining that it was too scary for them, but it was a great movie and the rest of us loved it.

After the kids went to bed I spent about half an hour working on the basement. I don't really like being down there, so I always just let it get trashed. If I would just spend a few minutes every day it wouldn't get so bad, but I just leave it until it's so bad that it stresses me out to go down there. So tonight I put away all the videos and DVDs and swept the floor. Tomorrow I'll spend a little while and do a little more damage control. We need to rearrange it somehow so I don't hate it so much!

Cooper's having a hard night tonight. It's 11:30 and he's already woken up three times. This last time I'm making him cry it out. I'm really getting tired of getting up with him every night. He's definitely old enough to be sleeping longer than two or three hour stretches! Aaah!

I know! He is the only Abersold. The rest of the kids all look like Olivers!

Wow, the big 40! Happy Birthday Dixon. Way to go on the cake, it looks yummy!!! Sorry about the spillage on the basement floor, celebration always seem to get the best of someone, right?

I am on day four of Ashlyn sleeping through the night! YAAAA! It has been so long. I finally had Morgan sleep in another room, and let her cry it out one night, and didn't go in to get her-Brian went and soothed her. And that was it! ONE night-and I had be putting it off for so long feeling guilty! I feel like a new person with 8 hours of sleep! I hope Cooper lets you sleep soon-it's miserable!
