Microburst

While I was at the High School last night for a swim team meeting, Dix texted me and told me that the power was out. I was surprised because when I went into the meeting the weather was fine...I saw a couple flashes of lightning, but that was it. Well, by the time the meeting was over, it was POURING down rain, and the power was out at the traffic light on my way home. As I was driving home I saw about four huge trees that were down, that fell into the street, nearly blocking it. I went back and took pictures this morning. By the time I got home, most of the damage had been done. The kids were sitting on the landing on the stairs so they wouldn't be near any windows. The tiles were being blown off the roof, the RV gate was ripped out of the wall and thrown in the backyard, the trampoline went for a little ride, and there were lots of trees and a cactus with a lot of damage. Here are the pictures I took this morning.Pool is filled with all sorts of nasty stuff.
At least the legs were just blown off the tramp. I don't think anything was broken permanently.
Chunks of broken tile that fell off our roof. It's a good thing I had the truck, because where we normally park it in the driveway was covered in pieces of tile.
A tile shingle, dangling on the edge, waiting for one of my kids to walk past so it can fall on their heads.
The saddest thing of all: Frank's Lone Cactus. I don't know if they will be able to save it. If not, the whole neighborhood will mourn.
Three uprooted trees in a row at the park we pass on our way to school every morning.
Another broken tree.
You can't really tell from this picture...the gate was ripped right out of the wall. The metal is bent and even the bolts are bent. It's pretty amazing. We propped it up right away because the dog had to go out this morning! So no pictures of the RV gates 25 foot journey it took, landing right on the bikes. Miraculously, none of the bikes were damaged.

So today will be a day of cleanup, and a day of counting our blessings. Really, most of our destruction will take a day or two of cleanup and it will be behind us.

You would think that someone would try to catch the cactus as it blew down!
