Wednesday

Today was the big day for my Dad's 67 mile bike ride. He is in his 67th year (his birthday is in the winter, so he can't do the ride on his actual birthday), hence the 67 miles. I wanted to do some of it with him, but I didn't know if I was up for 67 miles. For one thing, I've only ridden my bike a couple of times this year, and my longest ride was 20 miles and that was probably two months ago! And for another thing, I'm not completely recovered from my half marathon on Saturday. Excuses, excuses, I know. But I agreed to 50 miles. So my dad took off in the morning with Hayden and they did about 17 miles. Then I met them and sent Hayden on home (he had practicing to do!) and I continued on. We rode on the Chehalis Western Trail south from Lacey to Rainier and ultimately to Yelm.

I was feeling a little sluggish between Lacey and Rainier, and that's when I decided I was not fully recovered from my run. But a quick stop to a convenience store for an eggroll and a Dr. Pepper helped out a lot! (I know, that's what you usually crave when you're on a bike ride!)

We rode into Yelm and stopped at a fast food restaurant for lunch. Yes, I know. More unhealthy food. But do you have any idea how many calories we burned?

After refilling my drink a couple of times, we started heading for home. We made way better time on the way home. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that it was downhill most of the time! My dad did a couple of extra miles at the end to make sure that he had indeed hit the 67 mile mark by the time our trip was over. I'll be honest. At the beginning of the trip I was considering beginning training for a half ironman triathlon (Swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, run 13.1 miles) but after struggling through a 50 miler...I'm not convinced that this is my year to begin training! Maybe next year...

Why is your sandwich half gone before I took a bite?
