Are we poor?
Dix got laid off. They let him know last Friday and he has until next Friday to work. So when we heard that Yellow Pages was looking for people to deliver their books, we jumped on it (me and the kids). We did the first route as a fundraiser for my boys to go to Boy Scout Camp. We all worked together and it was a lot of work, but really pretty fun. Well, Hayden decided that he wanted to earn a little more money, so we took on a second route. We got lucky and got the neighborhood that we live in, plus many surrounding neighborhoods. We have been working all day long, and I don't remember the last time I was so hot and tired. We didn't use our truck, we delivered them all using leg power: bikes, scooter, roller blades and walking/running. I am so impressed with Regan. She stuck with us ALL DAY LONG! She has delivered so many books. She started with us this morning after her soccer game, and just finished up at about 9:30 pm. She just asked me, "Are we going to work all day on Monday, too?" in a hopeful voice. She had fun and wants to do it again! She was funny to work with. She always wanted to deliver to the "pretty" houses, or the ones with pink trim, or a purple door, or any of them with people in the yard. She had some pretty funny comments about some of the houses, like "This is a rich house." Which led her to ask me, "Are we poor?" Hmmm, I hesitated at that one. Between losing our business two years ago, and Dix losing his job now, I knew what the real answer was, but I didn't want to make her feel bad. I said, "We're RICH in family!" She gave me a funny look. I continued, "We're RICH in love!" Another look. "But not so much in money." She responded with, "Yeah, I thought maybe we were poor." That girl makes me laugh so much! I just love her to pieces! She is really so fun to be around and I can't believe how much she has grown--both physically and emotionally--in the last few months. I'm so, so glad I have her for my daughter! Even if she always wears hand-me-downs! :)

Regan is so cute. Oh, and hand-me-downs are amazing especially when you know people who are well off that are ALMOST your size. ahaa. :]
Wow! I would have wimped out and used the car. But, hey, think of all the exercise you guys got! :-)
Keep us posted on Dix's job situation. That really stinks.
I know how wonderful it is to have your one girl. Mine keeps me sane some days. Sounds like Regan does that for you, too!
Sorry to hear about Dix. We're right there with you. We've been unemployed for nearly 7 months. We've started calling it being Funemployed. We like having Harland around!
You know what is important. Family! And I can't believe you delivered phone books without your car! What a job, you earned that money for sure. Brian thinks you are pioneers in spirit.
I agree! You're totally a pioneer woman to me Les. What a blessing Regan is to you and your family of boys too!
Regan is quite the gal. She always has the cutest things to say. You have an amazing family & you guys always have the best attitude.
I am so sorry about the job. We will keep you in our prayers.
It is so nice to have a child that sees the glass half full!
Welcome to the world of unemployment! So sorry Les. Being poor is not so bad...we seem to be doing to well! Love ya!
