Wednesday

When I got back from my run this morning, my computer said that it was 7 degrees. That would probably explain why we had ice and frost on our hair and scarves. It took me several hours to feel completely warm after that. Dix built a fire in the woodstove which helped tremendously. In fact, the temperature downstairs was 53 this morning. The fire heated it up to 63 within an hour, which, although it's not warm, it's reasonable. It actually got to about 70 this afternoon. It never got above freezing outside today, so it was nice to have a warm spot in the house. The little boys played with duplos downstairs for a long time. It's cute to see them playing together, but makes me sad knowing that Turner will be heading to school in 9 short months! Luckily we only have half day kindergarten here, so that will help Cooper to transition easier!

Dix was working on some projects around the house and needed to take a trip to Lowe's. I volunteered Cooper to go with him, and he was okay with that. But when Turner started pulling on his shoes to go too, Dix asked if I wanted to come too. So we all went. Fun times. Turner talks everyone's ears off, everywhere we go. He's Mr. Friendly. He kept asking everyone at Lowe's if they had a toy steam car. Where the heck does he get these ideas? Of course they all just kind of smiled at him (smile and nod) because they had no idea what the heck he was talking about.

The kids had early release today and I taught piano lessons. I taught early so that I would be able to go to Porter's wrestling match. After lessons, I came home, grabbed the kids and a few snacks and headed over. Dix and Regan had left a few minutes earlier. We also had Tyler, Landon's buddy in tow. Porter did a great job on his first match. He lost, but he had some good moves and I thought he did really well. I think the final score was 9-4. I left with all of the kids, and Dix stayed to take him home after. What we didn't know was that the meet would go for two more hours and Port would wrestle two more times! He ended up getting pinned twice. I haven't seen him yet (he went straight from there to scouts), but Dix said he was in pretty good spirits. But even more importantly, Dix was sitting by the father of one of the boys on the team. This is the boy that has been bugging Porter all semester. It turns out that this boy has some disabilities that impair his social skills. (Hmmm, sound familiar?) I think it was good for the two dads to talk to each other about their kids. I think it will help us when we discuss situations that arise with this boy.

After a quick and easy dinner of canned chili--whoops, it was too spicy, nobody would eat it except Hayden--then a revamped dinner of PBJs, I bathed the kids, read the rest of Junie B Jones to them and got them tucked in. Once again, Turner conked out pretty quickly, while Regan and Cooper are still in there gabbing. *sigh* No wonder Regan is always tired!

7 degrees is really out of the ordinary for WA. I feel your pain. We're in the single digits, too, and it feels like the arctic! Brrr!
