Happy Birthday Turner!

We have had a fun day celebrating Turner's fifth birthday! What a sweet guy he is! He had a small party, only inviting his best friends, but since we all have big families, it ended up being quite a party!

We are having amazing weather right now. A week of sunshine in February! So unusual! So the kids all played outside for the first little while, and then we lined them up youngest to oldest for the piñata.

The first few kids barely made the piñata move, but once we got into the boys that were Regan's age, they started doing some damage! Everyone got a turn to hit, even Hayden. It's funny, we used to do piñatas all the time when the older kids were little, but we haven't done them much in the past few years. I was remembering to when Hayden was younger and he was usually one of the oldest, and it would always be up to him to break open the piñata. Well, now it was the 8 to 10 year olds doing the most damage, but it was fun remembering!

After the piñata, we went inside for presents. Turner was very excited for his new Transformers (thanks Curtis family!) and Bakugon (thanks Blume family!) and of course, Dale gave the favorite gift...again. He gave him a toy that sounds like thunder when you shake it. It's really cool. He's also excited about the money (thanks Grandma Hoho and Ole!) and will probably be buying more transformers or Bakugon with it! And he's going to look so sharp at church tomorrow after his colored bath with cool foamy soap and then in his new suit (thanks Grandma and Grandpa A!) He also loved his new "scanimation" book (and so did his siblings!) and of course doesn't really appreciate the rest of the clothes, but I certainly do! Thanks for your generosity everyone! It was a great birthday!

After the gifts came the cake! It turned out SO CUTE! He requested a shark cake, and this is what I came up with!

I just used two round cakes and messed with them a little. It was pretty simple, actually! I used pastel candy corns for the teeth. It's lucky that his birthday is during the spring, because the effect wouldn't be the same with orange candy corns! Anyway, he absolutely loved it and all the other kids thought it was cool.

We have a really bad tradition of singing Happy Birthday in AWFUL voices and as loud as possible (when did this tradition start anyway?), so we scared all the cute children at the party with our singing, and then we ate cake! Then they went back outside and we were done!

Tomorrow is his actual birthday, so I get to go do my traditional mommy cry at the side of his bed. This is the last night my sweet boy will ever be four! Tomorrow he is five!

Love the cake! I might have to use that idea for Max's birthday. He loves sharks.
