Summer Fun

We have had a busy week! The kids had violin day camp last week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They loved it and learned a lot. On Thursday they had a little concert for the parents. Regan is such a little stinker. She likes to learn ahead of what her teacher is teaching her. So she pays attention to what Landon is learning and she learns his songs. Landon gets really, really irritated with her because he "doesn't want her to learn it wrong by practicing it wrong." Yeah, I'm sure that's what he's worried about. In any case, when it came down to it, Regan went up and played the song that she "hasn't learned yet" with the group at the concert and did very well! And Landon was pointing at her and smiling to me about it! He was so proud of his little sister!

We then took a quick trip to the library to sign up for the summer reading program and of course for me to pay my fines so that I'm allowed to check books out again! Yikes! It was scary this time! I ended up paying $54! And that was after they showed me mercy! I will not let that happen again! And whenever we go to the library, the kids always love to play on the carved bears.

On Saturday Hayden did a Sprint Triathlon, and Landon and Regan did their first kids triathlon. It was so awesome. The adult tri went first. It was a short swim (maybe 250 meters?), a 12 mile bike ride and a three mile run. Hayden was about fifth out of the water, and then about third out of the transition! He was hauling! And then he ended up being about fifth in after the bike ride. And then, what do you know, he came in fifth overall! I was totally impressed! He did it all in one hour and twenty seconds. What a stud.

When he was done, Landon and Regan got to do theirs. It was really fun for them. They got behind at the beginning because the swim was a "splash or swim" so that many kids just ran along the beach with their feet in the water. My kids actually swam, though. Then a quick transition to the bike (this is when Regan started melting down, but she decided to buck up and finish it!), and then a short run. Landon came in tenth overall, even with his real swim! They were both so proud to get their finishers medals! And Hayden got a trophy for being in the top five! What a great time we had! Unfortunately my pictures are all on my camera which I can't get onto the computer, so you'll have to wait to see those! (All the pictures I've been posting lately are from my phone.)

Later that day we went to a BBQ at a friends house with a bunch of people from church. It was really fun. We decided to be creative and bring a 4th of July sushi plate. So I colored some dye and was in charge of the arrangement, while Dix rolled the sushi. They were delicious and it turned out really cute. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of friends that are adventurous eaters, so we brought a lot of them home with us! Hmmmm, I guess that's not such a bad thing! Port and I had a late night sushi eating frenzy later that night. Yummy.

After the barbecue, we dropped Hayden off at the church for a baptism and then a quad-Stake Dance, while the rest of us went to downtown Lacey for the fireworks show. It wasn't dark enough to start until 10:15, so we bugged the friends while we were waiting. We had fun visiting with the Shoops, Falters, Andertons and the Wolf kids. The kids weren't in bed until midnight! Yikes!

Luckily everyone slept in on Sunday morning. Seriously. Till 10 am. I love my kids. I took the kids all to church while Dix drove to the airport to pick up my Aunt Ally and her hubby Phil from the airport. He hurried back home and made an appearance at church to help set Porter apart as the Deacon's Quorum President. We had a fun visit with Ally and Phil in the afternoon. Regan looked adorable in her Patriotic skirt that mom and I made her.

Monday was the day we had our family get together for the 4th of July. We had a delicious barbecue, and a whole bunch of pies. We also had a 4th of July parade, complete with candy throwing. It was really cute. The kids all had fun.

That parade was the coolest. We should do parades more often!
